New York 2013: Toyota Highlander
Third generation Highlander brings several breaks in the line: a capacity increased to 8 passengers, and adopting a hybrid 3.5-liter V6.
With the new Highlander, Toyota shows the adaptation of his stylistic orientations to the upper segment declined after the theme Auris Rav4 or Vios. A more imposing grille, but the headlights still here for extending the chrome bar, and rear lights in horizontal and high enough. Profile, however, remains very smooth.
Inside, there are also themes already seen on the Rav4, with a provision quite horizontal, but also a more modern style than the banality of the previous generation. This major new interior, a third is now 3 seats, bringing the total to 8 for the Highlander. 3-seater bench that was previously the preserve of very large SUV (Toyota Sequoia, Ford Exedition ...) or large MPV. These are clear line of sight and the Highlander crossover confirms that now occupy the place of the family car. As usual in the U.S. market, Toyota has treated the storage spaces, small shelf for mobile devices in the center console storage giant armrest.
For mechanical, Highlander III combines the known and the new. Internal combustion engines are taken from the previous generation 2.7-liter 4-cylinder and 3.5-liter V6. The novelty comes from the hybrid version that goes upmarket. The electric motor is indeed now associated with a 3.5-liter V6. What augur performance superior to those of the 3.3 V6 of the previous generation. The AWD is now called Dynamic Torque Control AWD and now works with electromagnetic coupling in the rear differential to transmit or not the couple to the rear wheels, and this in a proportion ranging from 100/0 to 50/50 between front and rear axles. The system coordinates its operation with that of the ESP and electric power steering.
