American students support the Quebec movement
American students supported the strike of their colleagues in Quebec.
These students from the City University of New York (CUNY) and the State University of New York (SUNY) have published an open letter of support, posted April 18 on the Association website Brooklyn College students, college integrated with CUNY.
In this letter - published in French and English - the authors cover the stay of three students from Brooklyn College in Montreal while the student strike still in full beat in Quebec.
The visit aimed to understand how he could get organized mobilization to protest against rising tuition fees.
"... What what we saw beyond our greatest dreams of student movements and what they can accomplish. We walked with hundreds of striking students, we saw students pepper sprayed and have the courage to stand up for their rights to education, "reads the open letter.
The signatories are attached to the claims of the student community in Quebec and are parallel with the fee increases that affect students at SUNY and CUNY.
Quebec, a model
Describing the student strike in Quebec as a model whose movements must benefit U.S., they also condemn violence against strikers and "the unjust arrests of students in Montreal in the exercise of their rights to protest against unjust policies."
American students conclude by stressing that a gesture of solidarity, they will wear the same red square as Québec students, because, they say, "we share a common vision of what a university should be truly free."
