Weird Behaviours Sun Confusing World Scientists

The temperature and flow of the sun by a fairly predictable cycle. But recently, the nearest star to Earth has been behaving. In a conference, four solar physicist displays four different methods for measuring and understanding the solar cycle.

Sunspots are magnetic concentration areas which appear as black spots on the solar surface. Chronology of solar magnetic activity is related to sunspot cycles that make up the sun.

In another approach, Julia Saba, from SP Systems and Goddard Space Flight Center, NASA, in Greenbelt, using X-ray and magnetic field strength indicator as a way to predict the time marker for this solar cycle.

Saba uses magnetic mapping of the sun called the synoptic charts to observe the solar cycle number 21 to 23 and 24. By evaluating the trend in the activity of X-Ray, Saba is able to predict future incidence of approximately 18 months and will be more accurate at least two months.

"In May 2010, we see the cycle 24 is clearly below the line, even though today is pretty quiet in the southern region in general," said Saba.

The method to determine early this cycle can be useful to compare the different phases of solar activity because it can be observed in adjacent, clear of Saba.
