New Zealand Back Normal After Hit by 7.1 Quake SR

Christchurch - ravaged by the earthquake that shook southern New Zealand, are now starting to be addressed. Local governments trying to deal with to enable the various needs of sanitation, such as electricity and water.

Many roads are inaccessible due to the rubble of buildings, supply of gas, and water is overflowing the channel to close the street.

At least 500 buildings, including 90 properties downtown, was devastated following a 7.1 earthquake on the Richter scale rocked yesterday Saturday, September 4th. However, there are still some other building which is only slightly damaged.

Christchurch mayor Bob Parker is committed to fix everything today. "Electricity in the city of Christchurch, has now recovered to 90 percent. Water supplies have started to light up despite the new 15-20 percent, "said Parker, as quoted by Reuters.

Local governments also set up public toilets and clean water tank placed for residents.

Parker says, it takes a long time to recover fully. Currently the main priority is to fix some major services such as water and waste disposal. "Our first priority is also the treatment of citizens," he said.
